Two of my favourite things/obsessions/inspirations at the mo' are kitchenware and Julia Child (I've just ordered her memoirs from Amazon. I can't wait to read them, she seems such a joy and so hilarious). So this design (which I plan to print on a tea towel) is a small ode to her and her beautiful kitchen.

The fabulous book 'Heels On Wheels' (illustrated by moi) is nearly here! Although I would be biased - it's a great book. I started taking cycling a little more seriously last year and this little gem kept me and my little bike functioning and safe. However I do not look as chic as the front cover in my waterproofs and bobble hat. I def' recommend it - Katie Daily is such a smart, talented writer.

Hooray! I have now finished most of the Illustrations for a new book due early next year. Here is a teeny sneak peak of the 50+ illustrations I've done. The book is a very lovely, yet practical guide for female bike enthusiasts.

I worked digitally for this project, mostly due to time and the flexibility to change things down the line. I'm very fond of photoshop and enjoyed exploring and refining my style but I'm very much looking forward to getting out the ol' 0.5mm again.

Time to get thinking about some personal projects!

After a windy cycle to the studio yesterday, I decided to go to Primark for some snazzy cycling shorts to pop on under my dress and prevent any further pant flashing. I was saddened to see a trace of one of my older illustrations on an awful orange jumper. Walking towards it thought 'oh god hasn't that shitty Paris graphic thing ended'*, not realising that I was part of it! RUBBISH.

Part of me thinks 'aah no big deal' and then the other gets overwhelmed that something I just did for myself, is going to be on thousands of garments all over Europe. Someone got paid for that, while I sit here like a lemon desperate to find illustration work, pay my rent and keep my integrity. It makes me so so sad.

I've had this happen twice in the last few months. A little while back a t shirt supplier/designer used by Urban Outfitters had a t shirt that was a copy of my 'make do and mend' image. A couple of things had been tweaked so the designer clearly knew what they were doing. Upon contact the company were useless, but they did pull the design and let me donate all of the shirts to Cats Protection charity shops. So if you're in the London area, you may find one! Buy it (so CP get some pennies) - then burn it. I couldn't really blog about it before, as I had just sold the rights to UO's U.S homeware department (only for one particular item, mind) and was still waiting on the check. To be fair UO were very professional about the manner, but some gift vouchers would have softened the frustration.

Since graduating I've worked in two design studios, and can see how this happens. A teeny tiny part of me even has sympathy for the designers. They have to work towards tight deadlines and bash as much marketable stuff as poss, so they look to blogs to see what's popular. I think they forget how small the internet makes the world.

Anyway, rant over. I wish there was something that could be done about this kind of thing. An apology e-mail doesn't really seem to be enough.

Sometimes Rob and I like to set each other 'drawing challenges' on long journeys or in front of the telly. It can be people we know, weird people doing weird things, each other etc etc. I was flicking through an old sketchbook and found a doodle of a 'dutch mouse', next to Rob's 'mexican cat'. I loved the little mouse so much I decided to spend yesterday afternoon turning into a 'proper' Illustration.

I love making little characters and can't wait to do more.

Aaah I'm terrible at blogging!

I've just been away for my second stint with Marks and Spencer cards. They have the most amazing studio, with printers that can do all sorts and a foiler so I can make my pictures shiny and a cupboard just full of ribbons! Freelancers get to stay in a wee hidden cottage, where there's no internet (so no distractions) and vast fields and forest, so enjoyed some woodland trekking, did plenty of reading, had a much needed rest and met some lovely girls.

Unfortunately I can't really blog the work until it makes the ranges but here's something I did whilst away that I'm planning on screening this week.

Hello!

Eeeep, sorry there's not been a lot going on here.

Since joining Snap I've been trying to screen print and it turns i'm not very good! So I've spent the last three weeks making every mistake in the book and getting things wrong. But I'm really enjoying it here and now that the penny is slowly dropping, and I'm gradually getting better I'm really excited about exploring my work in print!

In other news, I am now 25 (gross) and just about to start illustrations for a book on Cycling. Hooray.

These little table cards were something I worked on early last year with blogger/yoga beauty Naturally Nina. The lovely couple used the cards to explain that in instead of favours, the money had been donated to an animal shelter. How great!

I loved working with her corn flower blue / butter yellow palette.

If anyone would ever be interested in anything similar, I can now screen print them for you too!

Happy Spring!

I have wanted to do a Paris map now for yonks but have been a wee bit reluctant because of the over use of all things paree. Even I, a francophile, am bored of crappy Eiffel tower shirts etc and figured I should probably try something new.

But then I though 'nah' and did it anyway...

Also! SO happy to report that I will now be part of the lovely lovely SNAP studio in Bristol. I'll get to sit alongside some amazingly talented artists and get to work towards some limited prints and other exciting new things.

A while back I was asked to do a wee commission for UK based site store Paper-mash (a fabulous website full of yummy stationary). Originally inspired by my Parisian snow globe, we decided to go for a London theme with a lovely 'air-mail' inspired colour palette.

You can now get our limited edition print here. Hand screened on an off-white, heavy weight paper it looks great mounted and framed and will make a gorgeous christmas pressie or winter treat for yourself.

These are of a limited number and each one is hand signed by myself.

Hello.

I've been AWOL for a long time, working hard(ish) in my retail job and saving pennies for my plans to get drawing full-time! I'm moving to Bristol and getting a cat and making pictures all day long. I wore my coat and fur hat for the first time today. I love Autumn.
